Are You Heaven Bound?

God’s huge and infinite existence is real. Consider the earth, a living and lush garden of untold biochemical complexity and species variety, suspended in billions of cubic light years of harsh and lifeless desert. As God’s Word says, He created the earth and all that is on it. The laws of physics bear this out: systems left alone tend to break down – not advance – unless acted upon by an outside force. God is that Force. He is infinitely powerful, and through His infinite love and mercy He wants you to enter Heaven. There is only one way to get there!

If you are a Christian, or child of God, you are promised Heaven for eternity when you pass away from this life. How can you be sure you are God’s child? You may be religious, observing all the traditions, sacraments and rules of your church. You are most likely a good person, observing good Christian-based morals and helping and giving to others. Unfortunately none of these things can make you or me a saved child of God. Salvation is “not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9). We can never be good enough to earn heaven because God hates sin and we sin on a regular basis. Even when we tell a small lie, we violate God’s Ten Commandments. The Bible says: “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). It also says: “… all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;” (Isaiah 64:6) and “…the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23); that is, separation from God in hell. So we are doomed! No one can make it! God is harsh and unreachable! But wait…

There’s good news! Because of God’s love for the world He sent His only Son, Jesus to become a sacrifice for our sins; to take the fall and pay the price that we can never pay. “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8). He suffered, shed His blood and died on the cross. Although sinless, He took our sins upon Himself and became a substitute for each one of us in death. “For he hath made him to be sin for us…" (2 Corinthians 5:21). Hundreds of years before Jesus’ birth, Scripture foretold His sacrifice for us: “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows… he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities… the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:4-6). After three days in the tomb, Jesus rose (as witnessed by many) revealing to us His power over death – our death that we so deserve! Now He eternally lives.

To become a freed child of God is so simple… accept Jesus with your whole heart; claim His sacrifice as your own – that He took away all your sins. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:19). In sincere prayer, repent of your sins and ask Jesus into your heart to be your Savior. Then in faith, thank Him for saving you. You are now Heaven bound! “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” (Acts 16:31). God sees you as He sees His own Son: without sin. Although life may not always be easy, it will be better. You will live with a sense of inner peace and freedom. It seems too easy: we are so programmed to work to make up for our faults or to earn something valuable. But God assures us: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…" (Titus 3:50). "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8).

If you need further guidance in understanding God’s salvation plan for you, please seek counsel from other Christians. I recommend you approach a pastor or other leader of a Bible-teaching Christian church. Such a church must teach that only one way to eternal life exists: through faith in Jesus Christ. We attend a Baptist church, but there are other Christian churches that teach this doctrine as well.

Remember: “…the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23). Don’t delay in calling on His name!
